Dhaka, Apr 30 (V7N) — The government has signed the largest aircraft purchase agreement in Bangladesh’s history, with national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines set to acquire 14 new aircraft from Boeing at a cost of Tk 35,000 crore.
The formal agreement was signed at a hotel in the capital Dhaka on Thursday evening.
Under the deal, Biman will purchase a total of 14 aircraft, including eight Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, and four Boeing 737-8 MAX jets.
The Dreamliner aircraft are expected to be deployed on long-haul routes covering Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, while the 737 MAX jets will be used for regional and short-haul operations.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Biman by its Managing Director and CEO Kaiser Sohel Ahmed and a representative of Boeing.
The signing ceremony was attended by Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita, State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat, and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen.
Officials say the deal marks a major step forward in expanding and modernizing the national airline’s fleet to meet growing passenger demand and strengthen international connectivity.
