June 4,(V7N Mongla Port)- In a significant development, Mongla Port by Bagerhat, announces the auction of 107 cars of various brands originally imported from Japan. 
 
The Mongla Custom House is facilitating the auction as these vehicles have not been cleared for import within the specified timeframe. Interested parties can participate in the auction by registering on the Customs' e-auction website from June 5 in the morning until June 6 in the evening (mch.portal.gov.bd).
 
The array of cars up for auction includes Nissan, Pajaro, Exeo Hybrid, Pierce Hybrid, Toyota Viz, Probox, Aqua Hybrid, Toyota Hybrid, Corolla Filter, Hyatch, Micro, and Ambulance models. These vehicles span from the years 1993 to 2022, encompassing different models and brands.
 
The final catalog of cars and other goods for auction was released by Mongla on Monday (June 3) on the Customs House website. Alongside the cars listed online, various gas cylinders and other products will also be available for auction.
 
Mr. Md. Shafiqul Islam, a revenue officer at Mongla Custom House, explains that despite the requirement for importers to clear their cars within 30 days, some have not complied. After granting an additional 10 working days, the authorities have initiated the auction process to ensure adherence to regulations. Bidding for the auctioned cars can be conducted online, with the vehicles sold to the highest bidders among the participants.
 
Mr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Joint Commissioner of Mongla Custom House, emphasizes the significance of timely revenue collection, stating that 52 percent of Mongla Custom's revenue is derived from the duty on imported cars. Timely auctioning of such vehicles not only ensures government revenue but also prevents logistical issues in storing other goods at the port.
 
Mr. Kudrat Ali, Assistant Traffic Manager of Mongla Port Authority, reflects on the history of car imports via Mongla Port, which commenced on June 3, 2009. Since then, a significant number of cars, totaling 1,84,899 units, have been imported through the port, representing 60 percent of the total imports.
