Gazipur, Dec 12 (V7N)-  Four passengers of an autorickshaw lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving a truck and a covered van in the Chandana intersection area of Basan police station, Gazipur city. The incident occurred on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 10 PM on Wednesday.

Victims Identified

The deceased have been identified as:

  1. Md. Dulal Mia (27), son of Nazrul Islam of Basan police station area.
  2. Md. Mamun (28).
  3. Saleha Akhter (23), wife of Mosharraf Hossain of Chandana area.
  4. The identity of the fourth victim remains unknown.

Details of the Accident

According to police and eyewitness accounts, a truck rammed into the autorickshaw from behind, causing it to collide with a covered van in front. The autorickshaw was crushed between the two vehicles.

  • Md. Dulal Mia died on the spot.
  • Three other passengers were critically injured and rushed to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

Medical Report

Dr. Sheikh Fahad, Resident Medical Officer at the hospital, stated:

  • The victims were brought to the hospital between 11 PM and midnight.
  • All four were declared dead upon arrival. The bodies have been sent to the morgue for autopsy.

Police Statement

Rahedul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Basan Police Station, confirmed that legal proceedings are underway. The bodies will be handed over to the families after the autopsy is completed.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and raises concerns about road safety in the area.
