Dhaka, Jan 26 (V7N) — The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has urged commuters to avoid the Gulshan-2 area for the next three months due to ongoing excavation work for the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line-5): Northern Route. The work commenced today, January 26.

Dr. Md. Mashiur Rahman, Additional Project Director (Civil, Underground) of the project, stated, "The excavation work may lead to traffic congestion in the Gulshan-2 area. We request passengers to avoid this route if possible."

The project, which integrates underground and overhead metro lines, aims to provide a modern public transportation system to ease Dhaka’s notorious traffic congestion and contribute to environmental protection. According to a notification issued on January 23 by Project Director Md. Aftab Hossain Khan, service line relocation work in the Gulshan-2 (Gol Chattar) Metro Station area will be conducted daily from 8:00 am for the next three months.

Traffic Advisory

  • The public has been advised to:
  • Allow extra time for travel.
  • Use alternative routes to bypass the Gulshan-2 intersection.

Authorities apologised for the temporary inconvenience and assured that the work is part of a long-term solution to Dhaka’s traffic challenges.
