Dhaka, July 3 (V7N) — The country’s rice and wheat stock stood at 17.64 million metric tons at the beginning of the current fiscal year, an increase of about 300,000 metric tons compared to the same period last year.
This information was shared by the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s Office on Thursday, citing data from the Ministry of Food regarding government stock, procurement, and distribution.
As of July 1, 2024, the total stock was 14.73 million metric tons, comprising 10.60 million metric tons of rice and 4.13 million metric tons of wheat.
At the start of the new fiscal year, rice stock has increased to 15.41 million metric tons. However, wheat stock has declined to 2.23 million metric tons. The decrease in wheat reserves is attributed to higher distribution, which exceeded the total volume collected from domestic sources and imports.
