Kuala Lumpur, Aug 12 (V7N) — Bangladesh is prepared to hold its national elections in mid-February, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus announced on Tuesday during a joint press briefing with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Speaking after a bilateral meeting in Putrajaya, Dr. Yunus said the interim government is working to revive the nation across all sectors, including the economy. He expressed gratitude to Malaysia for creating education and employment opportunities for Bangladeshi youth and encouraged Malaysian investors to explore opportunities in Bangladesh.
Addressing the Rohingya crisis, the chief adviser described it as “a big crisis for us” and appealed to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for support in finding a resolution.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim praised Dr. Yunus’s role in fostering peace in Bangladesh. The two countries signed five memorandums of understanding in areas including defense, energy, and halal food during the talks.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Yunus was received by the Malaysian premier with a red carpet welcome and guard of honour. The leaders held a private meeting before participating in the official briefing.
