PABNA, July 31 (V7N) — Police have recovered the body of a schoolteacher from a septic tank beside her home in Pabna's Atgharia upazila after a suspected overnight break-in and killing.
The victim, Geeta Rani, 45, was a teacher at a BRAC school and the wife of Nanda Das. She lived in Baraipara village under Ekdanta Union in Atgharia.
According to police and local residents, unidentified intruders allegedly entered the house by cutting through a wall at around 3:00 a.m. on Thursday. Investigators believe Geeta Rani woke up after noticing the intruders, leading to a struggle inside the house.
Police suspect she was strangled to death before the attackers disposed of her body in an abandoned septic tank beside the house.
After she was reported missing, family members and neighbours began searching for her. At around 11:00 a.m., local residents found her body inside the septic tank and alerted police.
Atgharia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmul Haque confirmed the recovery of the body. He said the body was being sent to Pabna General Hospital for an autopsy.
"The exact motive and those responsible for the killing have not yet been identified. We are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident," the OC said.
Police said further details will be known after the investigation and the post-mortem examination.
