Dhaka, July 29 (V7N)- Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) President Shawkat Aziz Russell has said the ongoing gas crisis in the industrial sector was caused by delays in taking timely decisions, but Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has assured that necessary initiatives will be taken to resolve the issue.
He made the remarks after the second meeting of the high-level committee formed by the Prime Minister to address challenges in the textile sector. The meeting was held at the Secretariat on Wednesday morning.
Shawkat Aziz Russell said entrepreneurs are encouraged by the government's commitment to resolving problems in the textile industry. He added that a report has been requested from business owners to identify the level of support needed for factories that are completely closed or partially affected.
The BTMA president said businessmen are hopeful that the crisis will be addressed. He added that the Prime Minister listened carefully to the situation and showed sincerity in understanding the challenges faced by the sector.
He also said that such a crisis could have been avoided if similar initiatives had been taken over the past 17 years.
