Thakurgaon, July 28 (V7N)- Drugs cannot be eliminated only through legislation and punishment; rather, a social movement involving everyone, including political parties, is needed to eradicate drugs, said Local Government Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at an anti-drug meeting organized at the Thakurgaon District Commissioner’s Office on Tuesday (July 28) afternoon.

Mirza Fakhrul said that an anti-drug campaign has already been launched in Thakurgaon with the participation of people from all walks of life. He emphasized that the campaign must be transformed into a broader social movement.

“There is no alternative to a social movement. Through such initiatives, it is possible to achieve some positive results,” he said.

The Local Government Minister also urged journalists to play a positive role in creating awareness against drug abuse.

He said, “We want you to play a positive role in this regard. The main objective of this campaign is to spread the message that drugs are harmful and should not be used. We have to move forward in this way.”
