Dhaka, Feb 06 (V7N) — After nearly seven and a half hours of protest, the relatives of martyrs have lifted their five-point blockade at Shahbagh, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for the murders committed during the recent coup in the capital. They ended their protest before 6:30 PM on Thursday, following assurances of discussions with authorities.

The blockade, which began at 11 AM, was lifted after protesters were assured of a meeting with leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement, Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah, on Friday, as well as a meeting with the Chief Advisor on Sunday.

The Five Demands of the Martyrs' Families:

1. Immediate Arrests – The accused must be arrested within 10 days for prosecution.

2. State Recognition – The martyrs and injured victims must receive official recognition.

3. Rehabilitation – Immediate arrangements must be made for the rehabilitation of the martyrs' families.

4. Fair Compensation – The issue of compensation must be discussed with the martyrs' families.

5. Monthly Support – A system for regular financial aid must be implemented for the families.

Addressing the protesters in the evening, Sarjis Alam acknowledged the delay in assisting the martyrs’ families. "The fact that they had to come here to demand justice is a shame for us," he said. "We will meet with their representatives on Friday, and the Chief Advisor will hear their demands on Sunday. Every reasonable demand must be fulfilled."

He further emphasized that bringing those responsible to justice is crucial. "If this government cannot hold Hasina and her associates accountable, it will be its biggest failure," he stated, reaffirming the movement’s commitment to seeking justice for the martyrs’ families.
