Islamabad, Aug 09 (V7N) – Pakistan’s military says it has killed 33 militants attempting to cross into Balochistan from neighboring Afghanistan, describing them as “India-sponsored” separatists.

According to a statement issued on Friday, troops identified the fighters—referred to as “Khawarij” (Pakistani Taliban)—during a night operation in Zhob district. The army said they were neutralized with “precise” fire, and weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed the operation, thanking security forces for “foiling the terrorists’ evil plot” and risking their lives in the process.

The separatists, seeking a greater share of revenue from Balochistan’s mineral wealth, have intensified attacks in recent months, prompting Pakistan’s military to ramp up intelligence-based operations.

The army also alleged that the militants had backing from India, though no evidence was provided. India has denied similar allegations in the past and has not commented on this latest claim.

Pakistan and India, both nuclear-armed neighbors, have a long history of hostility. Tensions have risen further since an April attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, killed 26 civilians, leading to regular shelling along the Line of Control.
