Dhaka, Feb 19 (V7N) – Police have arrested the entire gang involved in the brutal attack on a couple in the capital's Uttara. While the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has confirmed multiple arrests, the identities of three individuals have been officially disclosed.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Rawnak Jahan of DMP's Uttara Division confirmed the arrests on Wednesday. He stated that the gang, consisting of teenage criminals, carried out the attack on Mehebul Hasan and his wife, Nasrin Akhter Ipti, after they protested against reckless motorcycle riding in the area.
Arrested Individuals and Criminal Background
Among those arrested, two suspects—Md. Mobarak Hossain and Robi Roy—were apprehended on Monday night. The following day, police arrested another suspect, Alfaz, who was directly involved in the attack. DC Rawnak Jahan further revealed that all members of the gang were habitual drug users and engaged in various floating criminal activities, including robbery, in the Uttara area.
Details of the Attack
The incident took place on Monday night around 9:30 PM on Road No. 9 in Sector 7 of Uttara. According to eyewitnesses, a motorcycle was being driven recklessly and collided with a rickshaw. When Mehebul Hasan and Nasrin, who were on another motorcycle, protested against the reckless behavior, the bikers threatened them. The confrontation quickly escalated, with the gang physically assaulting the couple before calling for reinforcements. Eventually, the attackers used sharp weapons, leaving the victims injured.
Legal Actions and Investigation
The injured couple received treatment at a hospital and are now out of danger. Following the attack, Nasrin Akhter Ipti filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act, leading to swift police action. Authorities have assured that all individuals involved in the crime will face strict legal consequences.
The incident has raised concerns over the rising activities of teenage gangs in Dhaka, prompting calls for stricter law enforcement measures to prevent such violent occurrences in the future.
