Dhaka, Dec 09 (V7N) – Winter’s icy grip has firmly settled over Panchagarh, as the temperature dipped to 10.9°C on Monday morning, despite the absence of fog in recent days. Chilly winds have intensified the cold, making it feel even harsher.

Residents, particularly the impoverished rural population, are struggling to cope with the biting cold, resorting to burning straw and sticks for warmth.

According to the Tetulia weather observatory, the temperature was recorded at 10.9°C at both 6am and 9am on Monday. On Sunday, the temperature at 9am was slightly higher, at 11.5°C.

Azmir, a local vegetable farmer, described the challenges of working in the frigid conditions: “From night till dawn, it feels like ice. Harvesting spinach, mustard greens, and bottle gourd leaves in the morning is incredibly difficult. The cold makes my hands numb, but I have no choice as I need to deliver fresh vegetables to the market.”

Jitendra Nath, an officer at the Tetulia Meteorological Department, confirmed the drop in temperature compared to Sunday and noted that it is nearing 10°C, making the cold even more severe for the region’s residents.
