Jan 19 (V7N) - Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced on Saturday that the government will implement stringent measures to prevent hill and hillock cutting nationwide, particularly in Chattogram. Speaking at a discussion held at the Circuit House in Chattogram with officials from multiple environmental and forestry departments, she highlighted the use of advanced technology for forest mapping and the introduction of regular patrolling to curb illegal activities.
The adviser warned that anyone involved in hill cutting would face strict action and called for immediate action plans to tackle brick kilns, noise pollution, and the use of polythene bags. She instructed relevant authorities to ensure effective measures within the next month to address these issues.
Rizwana emphasised the importance of inter-departmental coordination and active community participation in safeguarding natural resources. She underscored the urgency of halting deforestation, promoting sustainable water management, and addressing climate change challenges through joint efforts by government bodies and local communities.
The meeting reviewed ongoing initiatives and discussed future plans to protect Chattogram’s environment and biodiversity. Rizwana provided specific guidance to officials and stressed the need for regular progress monitoring in field-level operations.
