Dhaka, Jan 31 (V7N) – As the month of Magh nears its end, a renewed wave of winter chill has gripped Bangladesh, with temperatures dropping significantly across the country. Thick fog and cold winds have made daily life difficult, particularly for children and the elderly, while hospitals are experiencing a surge in patients suffering from cold-related illnesses.

Panchagarh: Cold Wave Continues for Third Consecutive Day

In Panchagarh, a mild cold wave has persisted for three days, intensifying the suffering of residents. On Saturday, the temperature in Tentulia dropped to 9.8°C, the lowest recorded in the country today. Hospitals in the district are overwhelmed with patients, particularly children and the elderly, who are being treated for pneumonia, respiratory infections, and diarrhea. Due to the high number of patients, many are being forced to sleep on hospital verandas due to a lack of beds, disrupting medical services.

Naogaon: Dense Fog and Severe Cold Disrupt Daily Life

In Naogaon, dense fog has covered the district since Thursday evening, bringing severe cold and significantly reducing visibility. On Saturday morning, the Badalgachhi Meteorological Office recorded a temperature of 10°C, which is 3°C lower than Thursday. Due to the persistent fog, long-distance vehicles are moving slowly, and pedestrians are seen in fewer numbers, making the roads appear nearly deserted. Wet roads, covered in dew, have also increased the risk of accidents.

Nationwide Impact

The cold wave has affected both people and animals, with northern regions bearing the brunt of the harsh weather. Many low-income families, particularly in rural areas, are struggling to cope with the extreme conditions due to a lack of warm clothing and heating facilities.

Health experts are advising citizens to take extra precautions to prevent cold-related illnesses, while authorities are urging drivers to remain cautious due to poor road conditions. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department predicts that the cold wave may persist for several more days, with chances of further drops in temperature.

As the winter deepens, residents in affected areas are hoping for relief, while aid organizations and local authorities work to provide essential support to those in need.
