Dhaka, Mar 03 (V7N) - Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan emphasized the need for strategic partnerships to ensure that climate investments benefit local communities and ecosystems. She reiterated the government’s commitment to sustainable environmental management and stressed the importance of international collaboration in tackling climate challenges.

During a meeting at Pani Bhaban on Sunday with a delegation led by Erik Solheim, former Norwegian Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and Kavin Kumar Kandasamy, CEO of ProClime, discussions focused on strengthening climate cooperation, exploring carbon market opportunities, and advancing ecosystem restoration in Bangladesh. Key topics included reforestation, invasive species management, and biodiversity restoration. The delegation expressed interest in supporting afforestation, agroforestry, and conservation efforts while proposing sustainable forest management models to enhance environmental resilience.

The delegation also highlighted the potential for investments in carbon credit projects and renewable energy solutions, stressing the need for a structured approach to engaging international partners in climate initiatives. They underscored the importance of a robust national framework for implementing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and offered technical support to strengthen Bangladesh’s carbon registry system.

Both sides agreed on the urgency of accelerating climate action through public-private collaboration, capacity building, and innovative financing mechanisms. Syeda Rizwana Hasan assured that discussions with relevant government departments would be facilitated to explore further cooperation opportunities, reinforcing Bangladesh’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.
