Dhaka, Apr 04 (V7N) – A mild to moderate heat wave is currently sweeping over 13 districts of Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka, with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) warning that the heat wave may persist and temperatures are likely to rise further in the coming days.

The Met Office stated that mainly dry weather with temporarily partly cloudy skies is expected across most parts of the country, with day and night temperatures remaining nearly unchanged.

The forecast further mentions that a low pressure trough is extending over West Bengal and adjoining areas, while the seasonal low remains positioned over the South Bay of Bengal.

From Saturday (March 5) morning, temporary gusty winds, lightning, and isolated rain or thundershowers are likely in Chittagong and Sylhet divisions, while the rest of the country will continue to experience dry and warm weather with a slight rise in daytime temperatures.

For Sunday (March 6), similar weather is expected with a possibility of scattered rain or thundershowers in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions. However, a slight drop in both day and night temperatures may occur.

The Meteorological Department has urged citizens, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers, to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and take necessary precautions during peak daytime hours.

Health professionals have also warned that prolonged exposure to such weather can lead to heat-related illnesses including dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Citizens are advised to wear light clothing, stay indoors as much as possible, and avoid physical exertion during midday hours.

The Meteorological Department is continuing to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
