Dhaka, Jun 04 (V7N) – Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar has assured that there is an adequate supply of sacrificial animals within the country for the upcoming Eid al-Adha, emphasizing that there is no need to import cattle from neighboring countries.
She made these remarks on Tuesday (June 3) after inspecting the livestock market at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute grounds in Tejgaon. The advisor noted that law enforcement agencies are actively working to prevent the illegal entry of cattle through border areas.
"Law enforcement is on high alert to ensure no unauthorized animals are brought in. Our local farmers have raised enough healthy animals to meet the demand this Eid," she said.
Farida Akhtar also stated that veterinary doctors from the Department of Livestock Services are deployed at cattle markets across the country and are conducting round-the-clock monitoring to ensure the health and well-being of animals. Traders have been instructed not to use harmful fattening agents, and overall, the management of livestock markets in Dhaka is satisfactory, she added.

The event was chaired by Dr. Md. Abu Sufian, Director General of the Department of Livestock.
Dr. Md. Jasim Uddin, Project Director of the Livestock and Dairy Development Project, delivered the welcome address. Also speaking at the event were Dr. Md. Boyzar Rahman (Director, Administration), Dr. A. B. M. Khaleduzzaman (Director, Production), and Md. Shahzaman Khan (Director, Artificial Reproduction).
