"Bangladesh experienced a welcomed break from dense fog and overcast skies, with bright sunshine providing relief from a week of biting cold. Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid anticipates a slight temperature rise during the day, alleviating the chill in cities like Dhaka."

Bright sunshine finally arrived on Thursday, January 18, afternoon, much to the delight of Dhaka and people throughout Bangladesh who had been living under cloudy skies and heavy fog for the past week. The fog lifted, revealing a clear sky and much-needed relief from the bitter cold that has engulfed the nation since December 11.

Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid provided a promising forecast, there could be a rise of 1 to 3 degrees Celsius on Friday, January 19. Currently, a mild chilly spell is impacting the Rangpur division, encompassing locations such as Kishoreganj and Naogaon, and is predicted to persist.

As per the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the temperature is predicted to rise during the day, but it will subsequently decline in the evening. In the last 24 hours, Teknaf recorded the highest temperature of 26.9 degrees Celsius, while Dinajpur recorded the lowest temperature of 8 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature recorded in Dhaka was 18.2 degrees Celsius, while the lowest was 12.8 degrees.

Additionally, the Met Office has highlighted the possibility of rain or thunderstorms in parts of the Khulna and Barisal divisions, as well as in a few locations within the Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Chattogram divisions. Moderate to dense fog is expected to cover parts of the country from midnight to morning, potentially causing disruptions in air traffic, sea transport, and road communications.

Bangladesh's people are alert to possible weather-related issues, especially the effect of fog on communication and transportation, as they eagerly await the anticipated rise in temperatures and the end of the current cold wave.
