Dhaka, Aug 28 (V7N): The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has announced that the flood situation in Bangladesh is anticipated to improve within the next 24 hours.

According to the ministry, water levels in all rivers are on the decline, and no significant rainfall is expected in the near future.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Additional Secretary KM Ali Reza provided an update on the ongoing relief efforts. He reported that the recent floods have impacted over 1.2 million families and 5.8 million people across 11 districts. The floods have claimed 31 lives to date.

The casualties include 12 from Comilla, two from Feni, five from Chittagong, one from Khagrachhari, six from Noakhali, one from Brahmanbaria, one from Lakshmipur, and three from Cox’s Bazar. Additionally, two individuals remain missing in Moulvibazar.

In response to the disaster, the government has established 4,003 shelters, providing refuge to 540,510 people and 39,531 livestock.

A total of 619 medical teams have been deployed in the affected areas to provide healthcare services. The ministry assured that there are adequate relief supplies available across all districts, with both government and non-government organizations working diligently to distribute aid.

In cooperation with the Department of Disaster Management, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has sent 88,500 packets of dry food, clothing, and water to the flood-affected regions. Continuous communication is being maintained to ensure efficient relief operations.

Deputy commissioners in the affected areas have been directed to coordinate with the Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air Force, Fire Service and Civil Defense, medical teams, and volunteers to ensure effective disaster management and aid distribution.
