Dhaka, Oct 20 (V7N) – The government has suspended the passing-out parade of the new police officers from the 40th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), which was originally scheduled for Sunday, citing unavoidable circumstances.

In a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Office, it was announced that the parade, set to be held at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarda, Rajshahi, with Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury in attendance, would no longer take place. The event was to mark the officers' readiness to assume their respective posts following the completion of two years of training.

During his visit to the Border Guard Bangladesh's Rajshahi Headquarters, Home Adviser Jahangir addressed inquiries from journalists regarding appointments made during the previous Awami League administration. He stated that police officers who were appointed on the basis of party affiliation rather than merit during that regime may face consequences.

"An investigation is already underway, and one or two individuals have already been taken into custody," Jahangir said.

On Thursday, the BNP called for the cancellation of the appointments of 2,064 cadre officers from the 43rd BCS examinations held during the Awami League's tenure, as well as the suspension of proceedings for the 44th, 45th, and 46th BCS exams.

The Public Service Commission had recommended the appointment of 71 out of 1,929 officers from the 40th BCS batch for the police on November 1, 2022, following their success in preliminary, written, and oral exams held between 2019 and 2021.
