Dhaka, Feb 11 (V7N) –The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned for two weeks the hearing on review petitions pleading for restoration of the 13th amendment to the constitution and reinstatement of the polls-time non-party caretaker government system.

A three-member apex court bench headed by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam passed the order, as the matter came on the cause list for the hearing.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Miah Golam Parwar and rights organization Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik’s Secretary Badiul Alam Majumdar filed three review petitions in this regard.

The three pleas will be heard concurrently.

The High Court on December 17 declared illegal the scrapping of the caretaker government system in the constitution.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury pronounced the judgment also restoring the provision of referendum in the constitution.

Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman, after the pronouncement of the judgment, told journalists that the High Court declared the scraping of caretaker government provision in the constitution illegal, and from now on the caretaker system is part of the constitution.
