Dhaka, Mar 17 (V7N) – The High Court has issued a rule questioning why electricity supply should not be provided equally to rural and urban areas.
A High Court bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain issued the rule after hearing a writ petition on Monday, also seeking clarification on why load-shedding schedules are not published 24 hours in advance, reports Bangla Tribune.
The power secretary, along with other relevant officials, has been told to respond within four weeks.
The hearing on behalf of the petitioner in court was conducted by Advocate Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan.
In support of the petition, he said: "During the summer, rural areas experience more frequent load-shedding compared to urban areas, severely affecting industries such as poultry farming and other production-oriented businesses in these regions."
