Dhaka, Mar 25  (V7N) – Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Farah Mahbub have been sworn in as judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed administered the oath to the newly appointed judges at the Judges' Lounge of the Supreme Court at 10:30 am on Tuesday.

Earlier, President Md. Shahabuddin appointed them as Appellate Division judges from the High Court Division, and the Law Ministry issued a notification regarding their appointment on Monday. The notification stated that their appointment was made under the powers granted by Article 95(1) of the Constitution and became effective immediately upon taking the oath. With their inclusion, the total number of judges in the Appellate Division has now reached seven.

Justice AKM Asaduzzaman began his legal career as a lawyer in the High Court Division in 1985 and later in the Appellate Division in 2001. He was appointed as an additional judge in the High Court Division on August 27, 2003, and was made permanent on August 27, 2005.

Justice Farah Mahbub became an advocate of the High Court Division in 1994 and of the Appellate Division in 2002. She was appointed as an additional judge in the High Court Division on August 23, 2004, and was made permanent on August 27, 2005. Notably, she is the fourth female judge to be appointed to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
