Dhaka, Aug 06 (V7N) – The verdict on the review of the Warrant of Precedence, which determines the order of ranking among key state officials, is scheduled to be announced tomorrow, Thursday, August 7. The court confirmed the date this morning, bringing heightened anticipation over a long-standing legal and administrative debate.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, headed by Senior Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam, fixed the verdict date following a review hearing held on July 30. Although the court initially set August 6 for the announcement, it was later rescheduled to August 7.
Background of the Case
The case has a prolonged legal history. On February 4, 2010, the High Court declared the amended 1986 Warrant of Precedence illegal and void, issuing eight-point directives regarding the ranking of constitutional and state officials. The government filed an appeal against this verdict in 2011.
After extensive legal proceedings, the Appellate Division delivered its judgment on the appeal on January 11, 2015. However, a review petition was subsequently filed, leading to the current proceedings and the upcoming final verdict.
The Warrant of Precedence governs the official hierarchy in state protocol, including the placement of constitutional post holders, judges, military officers, and bureaucrats. The outcome of the verdict may have significant implications for administrative protocol and institutional relationships.
