Dhaka, Nov 01 (V7N)- The International Crimes Tribunal-2 is scheduled to hear arguments on the framing of charges in the crimes against humanity case over killings surrounding the Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Motijheel’s Shapla Chattar in Dhaka on May 5, 2013.

The hearing is expected to take place on Sunday before the tribunal headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury.

A total of 41 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, have been named as accused in the case. Of them, 11 have been arrested, while the others remain at large.

The hearing on charge-framing was previously scheduled for October 7. However, the defence lawyers sought an adjournment, citing the illness of a member of the tribunal. The court subsequently granted their request.

Hefazat-e-Islam leaders filed a complaint with the tribunal seeking justice for the killings at Shapla Chattar after August 5. The tribunal’s investigation agency later gathered information about the alleged killings of 57 people in Dhaka, Narayanganj and Chattogram in connection with the Hefazat rally.

Following the investigation, the prosecution submitted a formal complaint naming 41 accused. The tribunal subsequently issued arrest warrants for those who remain at large.
