The High Court has directed to reserve five percent seats in the freedom fighter quota in the admission policy for new students in MBBS and BDS courses in medical and dental colleges. It has been instructed to adhere strictly to the admission test to be held on February 9.

The High Court bench headed by Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam passed the order on Thursday.

According to the policy, 2 percent of the total seats will be reserved for children and children of freedom fighters. However, if the seats in this quota are vacant, this seat can be filled by admitting students based on merit from the general quota.

The son of a freedom fighter named Ahidul Islam and a leader of the generation council filed a writ petition challenging the validity of keeping the 2 percent quota in this policy. Lawyer Muntasir Uddin Ahmed heard on behalf of the writ.

The statement of the petitioner is that there is a Supreme Court ruling to keep the freedom fighter quota at 5 percent. In violation of that, two percent has been kept in the admission policy. The court directed to reserve 5 percent quota to give the results.

The MBBS admission test for the academic year 2023-24 will be held on February 9. A month after this, the dental admission test will be held on March 8.
