Illegal drugs were transported into Bangladesh via the border, despite fierce fighting between the rebel Arakan Army and the Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) in Rakhine state.

Thousands of pieces of illegal Yaba tablets are constantly entering Bangladesh's neighboring Cox's Bazar region through several locations that cross the Teknaf Naf River.


Meanwhile, on Wednesday, police in the Teknaf neighborhood of Coxsbazar district arrested a person they believed to be a narcotics dealer.

Nurul Islam (35), son of Md. Younus of Shilbonia Para, Ward No. 8 of Teknaf Sadar Union, was identified as the arrestee.

Approximately 1.10 lac pieces of Yaba tablets were found among his belongings.

Based on secret information, a team of Teknaf Model police station conducted drive and arrested Nurul Islam from the Shahpori island border post, OC Md. Osman Gani.
