BDR carnage: Commission summons Hasina, 14 others

Dhaka, Mar 08 (V7N) –The National Independent Investigation Commission has summoned 15 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, to testify regarding the killings at the then BDR (now BGB) headquarters in Dhaka’s Pilkhana on February 25-26, 2009.

The commission issued a special notice on Saturday, saying: “To ensure a fair investigation, 15 relevant individuals have been called to testify.”


The testimony process is scheduled for completion by March 31.

Witnesses must inform the commission of their preferred schedule in writing within seven days of the notice’s publication.

They may submit their schedule via phone, email, or letter.

The commission also warned that legal action would be taken against any witness who refuses to cooperate.

The list of individuals also includes retired Maj Gen Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former security adviser to the prime minister; Fazle Noor Taposh, former mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation; Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, former Gopalganj-2 MP; Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former Dhaka-13 MP; Mirza Azam, former Jamalpur-3 MP; and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former Dhaka-8 MP.

Additionally, several former security officials have been named, including retired Brig Gen Muhammad Shamsul Alam, former commander of the 44th Rifle Battalion; retired Lt Gen Molla Fazle Akbar, former director general of Forces Intelligence; Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, former director general of RAB; Abdul Kahar Akond, former police officer; Nur Mohammad, former inspector general of police; and Monirul Islam, former additional IGP.
