Ukhiya, Aug 23 (V7N) — In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 80,000 yaba pills valued at approximately Tk 2 corer 40 lakh from a passenger vehicle at the Morichya joint checkpoint in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. The operation was conducted by the Ramu Battalion of the BGB on Friday around 12:30 PM.
 
The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammad Ibrahim, 26, son of Shamsul Alam from Palongkhali Union in Ukhiya Upazila. Following his arrest, Ibrahim was handed over to the Ramu Police Station later that evening.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, Commanding Officer of the 30th Ramu Battalion, emphasized that the unit remains vigilant in securing the border and combating smuggling, drug trafficking, and other cross-border crimes. He stated that the successful operation contributes to enhanced security in civilian areas and underlines the BGB’s commitment to taking stringent action against drug traffickers.
 
This seizure represents one of the largest recent drug busts in the region and highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the illegal drug trade along Bangladesh’s borders. Authorities continue to intensify patrols and surveillance to prevent narcotics smuggling, ensuring public safety and national security.
