Pabna, Aug. 15 (V7N) — A pet dog was allegedly killed with a sharp weapon in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna on Friday, prompting the owner to prepare a complaint with the police.

The incident reportedly took place at around 9am in Agshoail village of Haripur Union.

The dog was reportedly owned by farmer Solaiman Pramanik, a resident of the village. He said he was working in a field when the incident occurred. After returning home, he found his pet dog dead.

According to Solaiman, his mother told him that a neighbour, Naim Hossain, allegedly struck the dog with a spade, causing its death. He said he did not know why the dog had been killed.

“I was very attached to the dog. After the incident, I informed the upazila livestock office and the police. I am submitting a written complaint and want justice for the killing of my pet,” Solaiman said.

Naim Hossain, the accused, said the dog had bitten several of his goats the previous day and had also attacked goats and chickens belonging to other residents.

He claimed that repeated incidents involving the dog had made it difficult for residents to raise livestock and poultry.

“Because of the situation, I became frustrated and killed the dog with a spade. There are two more dogs in the area, and I will kill them too if they continue causing harm. If they are pet dogs, their owners should keep them restrained,” Naim said.

Chatmohar Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Swapan Kumar Sarker said he visited the scene after receiving information about the incident. He later recovered the dog’s body and conducted a post-mortem examination at his office.

“Preliminary findings suggest that the dog died from excessive blood loss after its ribs and lungs were injured by a blow from a sharp weapon,” he said.

He added that the post-mortem report would be handed over to police after a case is formally registered.

Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Oliur Rahman said police had initially received verbal information about the incident and advised the livestock office to examine the matter.

“The complainant is preparing to submit a written complaint. Once it is received, a case will be registered and legal action will be taken following an investigation,” he said.
