Cox’s Bazar, Aug 18 (V7N) — Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 2 lakh yaba tablets worth an estimated Tk 6 crore during an operation in the border area of Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
The drugs were recovered from the Kakra Bridge area of Balukhali in Ukhiya at around 9:15pm on Sunday.
According to BGB, a special patrol team from the Ghumdhum Border Outpost under the Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) conducted the operation based on a tip-off about a suspected drug consignment.
The patrol team searched the Kakra Bridge area, located approximately 500 yards inside Bangladesh from Border Pillar No. 31, and found the yaba tablets abandoned at the scene.
Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, commanding officer of the Cox’s Bazar Battalion, confirmed the seizure.
He said BGB operations against drug trafficking and smuggling would continue alongside regular border surveillance.
The seized yaba tablets were handed over to Ukhiya Police after a general diary (GD) was filed at Ukhiya Police Station, BGB said.
