Sylhet, July 4 (V7N)- In recent days, Sylhet has been abuzz with discussions and criticisms regarding the smuggling of sugar, involving Indian contraband. The incident has led to the names of several student league activists coming to light, with some being expelled and others arrested.

This situation has embarrassed local leaders of the Awami League. The arrest of two truck drivers following the seizure of 14 trucks of smuggled sugar in Umoirgaon, Sylhet, has brought the names of Delwar Molla and Nur Islam into the spotlight. While no information about Nur Islam is available, detailed information about Delwar Molla has surfaced. He is known as an informant for the Goainaghat Police.

Two arrested drivers gave confessional statements under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, providing significant information about the case, which is being verified by the police. It was revealed that the truck drivers, Mansur Ali and Sadarul Amin Akash, were hired by Nur Islam, with Delwar Molla acting as a guide for the smuggled sugar.

Mansur Ali, arrested on June 11, 2024, gave his confession the following day in the court of Magistrate Umme Habiba. Similarly, Sadarul Amin Akash, arrested on June 29, 2024, confessed on June 30, 2024. Both are now in Sylhet Central Jail. Despite these arrests, the main culprits remain at large.

Delwar Molla, identified as a local from Hadarpara in Goainaghat and well-known as "police's man," has strong connections with influential political leaders. Despite his visible affluent lifestyle, his actual profession remains unclear. Attempts to contact him have failed, as his phone numbers are switched off.

When asked about Delwar Molla, Goainaghat OC Rafiqul Islam Prabon mentioned that people take photos with various individuals and that recognizing everyone is difficult. However, he assured cooperation in the ongoing investigation.

Unregistered TV Channel Facebook Live Users:

Throughout the Sylhet division, numerous unregistered online media and Facebook live users claim to be part of TV channels. These individuals, particularly active in areas like Sylhet city, Jaflong, Goainaghat, Golapganj, and Jaintiapur, often conduct live news and interviews, primarily targeting border areas. Their activities include blackmailing and exploiting their perceived authority, with ongoing legal cases against them. Despite their illegal activities, they continue to operate, supported by certain local officials.

In conclusion, the incident involving the smuggling of Indian sugar in Sylhet has exposed the involvement of both police informants and unauthorized media personnel, raising concerns about the integrity and legality of their operations.
