Mongla, Oct 23 (V7N) – Due to the impending threat of Cyclone Dana, two warships of the Bangladesh Navy, BNS Shapla and BNS Shaibal, anchored safely at Mongla Port’s Jetty No. 9 on Wednesday afternoon. In addition to these, two other warships, BNS Pardika and BNS Swadhanta, have anchored at Mongla Naval Base after arriving from Chittagong Port.

Commander Saifur Rahman Bhuiyan, Harbor Master of Mongla Port Authority, confirmed that the port is under local warning signal No. 3, as instructed by the Meteorological Office due to Cyclone Dana. In response, Mongla Port has implemented Alert-One, ensuring all necessary precautions are taken to brace for the storm.

Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman, Chairman of Mongla Port Authority, chaired an emergency meeting to discuss safety measures. Following the meeting, domestic and international commercial vessels, along with the port's own ships, were safely relocated to avoid any risks from the cyclone.

Despite the alert, Commander Bhuiyan mentioned that the unloading of goods such as fertilizer, coal, and clinker from the eight stationed ships at the port continues as normal.

Meanwhile, Mongla has experienced light wind and rain throughout Wednesday morning, with the sky remaining cloudy as Cyclone Dana moves closer.
