Pirojpur, Oct 26 (V7N)- In a grassroots initiative, villagers along the Baraharji-Mirukhali road in Daudkhali Union, Mathbaria Upazila, have turned unused land into a flourishing source of vegetables, providing both sustenance and additional income for their families. Local farmers have planted a variety of vegetables along the roadside, creating thriving gardens of gourd, beans, bitter gourd, shrimp, sweet pumpkin, and more.

Farmers like Mustafa Kazi, Harun Mia, Sachin Halder, and others work together in cultivating the crops. They collect the produce weekly, selling it in local markets, which boosts their household income. Harun Mia explained that they opted to use roadside land due to recurrent flooding of their homes caused by natural calamities. Despite the lack of formal support, their cultivation efforts have shown great success.

Mathbaria Agriculture Officer Md. Moniruzzaman praised this effort, calling it a "commendable initiative" by local farmers. He noted that such projects serve as models for sustainable use of fallow land, aiding both family nutrition and community livelihoods.
