Kurigram, Nov 24 (V7N)- The temperature in Kurigram has been steadily decreasing, with the district experiencing an intensifying winter marked by dense fog and cold winds. Over the past week, temperatures have dropped from 17°C to 15.6°C, the lowest recorded this season.

While daytime temperatures remain bearable, the cold becomes severe from night to early morning, blanketing roads and surroundings in thick fog. Visibility issues caused by the fog have led vehicles to travel slowly with headlights on, disrupting usual transportation schedules.

Kurigram General Hospital has reported an increase in patients suffering from cold-related ailments. The persistent cold and damp conditions are exacerbating the health challenges faced by vulnerable populations.

The harsh winter is particularly affecting farm laborers and impoverished communities living along riverbanks and char areas. Many are unable to start their daily work on time due to the cold.

Aminul Islam, a 60-year-old from Panchgachi Union, shared, "The cold has intensified over the past week. Fog falls like rain at night, making it hard to work. Still, I have to go out in the morning, as my family depends on it."

Day laborer Ashadul Mia echoed similar sentiments, stating, "The fog is so dense today, but we have no choice but to work despite the cold."

According to Subal Chandra Sarkar, Officer-in-Charge of the Kurigram Meteorological Office, frosty winds are expected at the end of November or early December, which could further intensify the cold.

Residents are bracing for more challenging days ahead, with many hoping for support to weather the worsening conditions.
