Jhalakathi, Jan 14, (V7N) - The National Citizens Committee (NCC) held a press conference at the Rajapur Journalist Club today at 11 AM to protest threats and misinformation targeting its members.
In a written statement, Taimul Haider Sajeeb, the Rajapur Thana Representative Member, condemned the intimidation and propaganda by a "local evil group" aimed at destabilizing the committee. He claimed that after the August 5 overthrow of the Awami League government, the NCC was formed to sustain the anti-discrimination movement. Following consultations with local student activists, a list of 108 members was submitted and approved as the Rajapur Thana Representative Committee on January 8.
After the list's publication, the group allegedly began threatening members and spreading misinformation, fearing the NCC would hinder their involvement in tender fraud, extortion, and illegal occupations. Sajeeb dismissed claims that committee members were affiliated with the former regime as "false, fabricated, and shameless."
He also criticized reports claiming resignations within the NCC, falsely attributed to Mashiur Rahman, the committee's central organizer. Sajeeb called on the administration and journalists to help combat crimes like extortion and tender manipulation in Rajapur.
OC (Investigation) Abdul Malek of Rajapur Police Station stated that no formal complaint has been received but assured that legal action would follow upon investigation if complaints are filed.
