Chapainawabganj, Feb 07 (V7N)- A Bangladeshi youth has allegedly been killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Chapainawabganj border. The deceased has been identified as Barikul Islam, son of Setaur Rahman from the Namojgannathpur School Ground area of Durlavpur Union in Shibganj upazila.

The incident reportedly took place on Thursday night in the areas adjacent to Fatehpur and Raghunathpur camps. According to family members, Barikul crossed into India along with several others around 3:30 am when BSF opened fire. While the others managed to flee back to Bangladesh, Barikul was captured by BSF and allegedly tortured to death. His body is currently in a BSF camp, and the family claims to have seen injury marks on his body.

However, Barikul’s younger brother, Suman Ali, offered a different account. He stated that his brother had gone missing while fishing in the Padma River on Thursday evening. Later, they learned through relatives in India that Barikul’s body was kept at Mahishalbari Hospital. Suman also mentioned that BGB members visited their home and assured them of efforts to retrieve the body.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Monir Ujj Zaman, commander of the 53rd BGB Battalion, stated that they have no official information on the incident yet. Shibganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Kibria said he learned about the matter from various sources and the victim’s family.

Authorities are expected to investigate the incident further, while the family awaits the return of Barikul’s body.
