Netrokona, Febr 15 (V7N) – Md. Rukhon Mia, a farmer from Mallikakpur village in Atithpur, Barhatta Upazila, has lodged a complaint with the Upazila Executive Officer, alleging that he is unable to cultivate Boro paddy due to being denied irrigation water by his own brother.

In his written complaint, Rukhon Mia stated: "I am a helpless, poor, and destitute farmer. My brother, Nurul Islam Tipon, is using his muscle power and political influence to deprive me of my rightful inheritance. Despite installing an irrigation line on my land (Daga No. 2609 in Mallikpur Mouza) under Palli Vidyut Samity regulations, he refuses to provide me with water. When I ask for water, he threatens and even physically assaults me."

Rukhon further demanded the removal of the irrigation line from his land and urged authorities to ensure justice.

In response, Nurul Islam Tipon denied the allegations, claiming: "Rukhon Mia cunningly took over all our father’s property, leaving us with nothing."

However, Rukhon countered this, asserting that he had been the sole caretaker of their father, covering his medical expenses and living costs, which led their father to legally transfer the property to him.

Regarding the matter, Barhatta Upazila Executive Officer Khabirul Ahsan stated: "We are investigating the complaint. Appropriate action will be taken after verification."

The dispute highlights ongoing land ownership conflicts in rural Bangladesh, where family inheritance issues often escalate into legal battles and disruptions in agricultural activities.
