Khulna, Mar 02 (V7N) - The markets of Khulna are on fire with Ramadan. Especially the prices of Iftar items have increased by two to three-four times. One of the most demanded items for Iftar is eggplant, cucumber and lemon. Considering the demand, the prices of these three products have doubled. Despite having adequate supply in the market, these products are being sold at higher prices. This information was obtained by visiting the KCC evening market in the city on Saturday and talking to the sellers.
Depending on the type, eggplant is being sold at 60 to 80 taka per kg, which was sold at 25 to 30 taka per kg even a week ago. Cucumber is being sold at 60 to 80 taka per kg, last week it was sold at 30 taka. Lemon peels were sold at 20 to 30 taka, but now they are being sold at more than double the price.

Visiting the Mistripara market, Rupsha market, and Moylapota evening markets in the city, it was learned that broiler chickens are being sold at 200 to 210 taka per kg.  Golden chicken is being sold at 320 to 340 taka per kg, and layer at 320 taka.

When asked about the increased price from a vendor at KCC Sandhya Bazar, he said that the price is a little higher now due to the low supply of chicken from the farm. However, the price of chicken will be within the purchasing power of the common man during Ramadan.

A vendor at Mayer Doa Vegetable Shop at KCC Sandhya Bazar said that the price of the product has doubled in the space of two days. The supply is the same as before. The vendors have increased the price due to the demand in the market. We are teaching accountability to the common buyer.

A buyer named Taslima said that I thought the market would be normal during Ramadan this year, but with the increase in demand, the price is also increasing.

She further complained that beef was being sold in the market at 700 taka. KCC has increased the price by another 50 taka instead of reducing it. That is why chicken is also being bought at a higher price.

Meanwhile, the Khulna district administration is monitoring the market every day. Executive Magistrate Muntasir Mamun, led by Additional District Commissioner Nurul Hai Mohammad Anach, is monitoring the market.
