Rajshahi, Apr 10 (V7N) - The number of candidates appearing for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations under the Rajshahi Education Board has decreased by approximately 19,000 this year. Authorities at the education board have initiated an investigation to determine the reasons behind this significant drop.
According to data from the Rajshahi Education Board, the number of SSC candidates in 2024 was 200,853. However, this year, only 181,904 candidates are registered to participate in the examinations. This represents a decrease of 18,949 candidates compared to the previous year. The SSC examinations for 2025 are scheduled to be held across 269 centers within the Rajshahi division.
Professor Md. Ariful Islam, the Examination Controller of the Rajshahi Education Board, acknowledged the decrease, stating, "The number of examinees has decreased slightly this year. Low registration seems to be the main reason for this. We are reviewing the matter." He further informed that the examinations are set to commence today, April 10th, at 10:30 am with the Bangla (Compulsory) First Paper and Easy Bangla First Paper examinations, and that all necessary preparations have been finalized.
In related news, the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) has issued a public notice to curb noise pollution during the examination period. The notice prohibits the use of loudspeakers, playing musical instruments, and any other activities that generate loud noise within the vicinity of the exam centers.
Sabina Yasmin, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Media) of RMP, stated that the SSC, Dakhil, SSC (Vocational), and Dakhil (Vocational) examinations will be held at 27 centers within Rajshahi city this year, spanning from April 10th to May 13th.
