PABNA, JUNE 02 (V7N) – A pall of grief has fallen over Mandalpara village in Gunaigacha union, Chatmohar upazila, Pabna, after the lifeless body of five-month-old Sohagi was discovered on the banks of the Baral River near her home on Saturday morning. The tragic incident has left the community questioning the circumstances of the child's death.
Sohagi, the only daughter of Kamal Mandal and Srabanti Mandal of Jaleswar Mandalpara village, was left sleeping on a bed on the veranda by her mother, Srabanti, who briefly stepped out to gather hay. Upon her return just minutes later, Srabanti found the bed empty and her infant missing. A frantic search by the family and locals ensued, culminating in the heartbreaking discovery of Sohagi's body.
Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manjurul Alam confirmed the incident, stating that police recovered the body and have initiated a preliminary investigation to uncover the mystery surrounding the child's death. The body is being sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, after which more details can be provided.
The community is grappling with profound questions: Who took the sleeping child? Why did she die? What is the mystery behind her death, and whose enmity led to the five-month-old becoming a victim?
During a visit to the family's home on Saturday afternoon, Sohagi's mother, Srabanti Mondal, was seen frequently fainting while speaking of her lost daughter. Her father, Kamal Mondal, was rendered speechless by the tragedy. Relatives and friends thronged the house, attempting to console the grieving parents.
Pointing to a swing on the veranda, where she often placed Sohagi while doing chores, Srabanti Mondal tearfully lamented, "Who will sleep in this cradle now? You bring my Sohagi."
Kamal Mondal, Sohagi's father, strongly suggested that his daughter's death was not accidental. He claimed that someone took the child from their home, killed her, and then left her on the riverbank, demanding a swift resolution to find the perpetrator.
