MONGLA, JUNE 02 (V7N) – Krishibid Shamimur Rahman Shamim, Research Secretary of the BNP Central Committee, issued a stern warning today, stating that if the government fails to swiftly implement reforms to restore voting rights and allow people to elect their representatives freely, "the people of this country are ready for another mass uprising." However, he added, "We do not want to fight that fight, we want to cooperate with this government."
Shamim made these remarks as the chief guest at the martyrdom anniversary program of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, held at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium on Saturday afternoon. The event was organized by the Upazila Muktijoddha Dal and the Upazila and municipal branches of Arafat Rahman Koko Krira Sangsad.
During the program, Krishibid Shamim distributed food and cash assistance to 4,000 needy individuals.
Among those present at the event were Upazila Muktijoddha Dal President Abu Hanif, Municipal BNP Member Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Manik, Municipal Jubo Dal Joint Convener Iman Hossain, Municipal Volunteer Dal Convener Sabbir Hossain, Member Secretary Nur Uddin Tutul, Upazila Sramik Dal President Jamal Hossain, Upazila Branch President of Arafat Rahman Koko Sports Association Shah Alam Sheikh, General Secretary Mehedi Hasan, Mongla Municipal Branch President of Arafat Rahman Koko Sports Association Selim Howlader, and General Secretary Md. Sohel Howlader.
