PABNA, JUNE 06 (V7N) – Members of the Sanatan (Hindu) religious minority community in Pabna have staged protests and formed a human chain, demanding security against alleged attacks, vandalism, threats of arson on their businesses and homes, and death threats, all reportedly stemming from their refusal to pay extortion demands.
The human chain was held in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Wednesday afternoon, June 4. Prior to this, the victims marched in a protest procession from the Pathar Tala area of the city to the Deputy Commissioner's office. Following the human chain, a memorandum was submitted to both the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police, seeking immediate security.
Speakers at the human chain included Abhi Roy, Joydev, Akash Das, Bijoy Kumar, Shyamal Ravi Das, and Uts Kundu. They stated that since August 5 of last year, a group has been demanding large sums of money from traditional traders in the Pathar Tala area. They alleged that continuous threats are being made for non-payment, and the group has mobilized mobs to create chaotic situations and spread panic in the area, leaving them feeling insecure. The protestors urged swift legal action against these alleged extortionists and terrorists to ensure the safety of the Sanatan religious followers.
