Rangamati, Aug 31 (V7N) – Residents of Jurachhari upazila in Rangamati organized a large-scale religious offering ceremony, known as Maha Sanghadana, at the historic Rajban Vihara on Saturday morning. The event began at 9 a.m. in the southern courtyard of the monastery and was attended by hundreds of Buddhist devotees.

The program included the chanting of devotional songs, observance of the Five Precepts (Pañcaśīla), offerings to the monastic community, donation of Buddha statues, and a special prayer for the peace and well-being of all living beings in the country. The ceremony concluded with a Dhamma sermon.

The Five Precepts were administered to devotees by the Chief Resident Monk of Rajban Vihara, Most Venerable Praggyalankar Mahathera. More than 150 monks participated in the event, joined by thousands of lay devotees from both Jurachhari and Rangamati town.

The Maha Sanghadana is a deeply revered annual tradition in which people of all communities in Jurachhari come together to organize the event as a gesture of devotion and merit-making. According to organizers, this tradition has been upheld consistently for the past 21 years.

Rajban Vihara, one of the most prominent Theravāda Buddhist monasteries in Bangladesh, has long served as a spiritual and cultural center for the indigenous Buddhist population of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
