Narsingdi, Oct 3 (V7N) – Outraged residents of Shibpur upazila in Narsingdi have demanded the immediate trial and exemplary punishment of Jakir Munsi, accused of brutally raping an eight-year-old girl.

On Friday morning, October 3, a massive human chain was formed in front of Narsingdi Press Club, where men and women from all walks of life participated. Protesters expressed deep anger, calling for the death penalty for the accused.

Speakers at the demonstration said there is no place for such barbarism in a civilized society. They warned that if authorities fail to ensure justice promptly, tougher movements will follow. “We do not want to see any more children face such a fate. Rapist Jakir Munsi must face swift trial and maximum punishment. Exemplary punishment is essential to prevent the recurrence of such crimes,” the demonstrators declared.

The incident occurred on September 26 in Kararchar village under Putia Union of Shibpur upazila. According to police, Jakir Munsi, 35, son of Samsu Munsi, lured a neighboring child into his home, threatened her, and committed rape. The child’s health deteriorated afterward, bringing the matter to the attention of her family and quickly spreading across the area.

Following the crime, Jakir went into hiding. However, a joint operation by Shibpur Model Police Station and RAB led to his arrest. The case has since sparked widespread outrage across Narsingdi, with condemnation pouring in from every level of society.

Rights activists and social analysts have stressed that ensuring a safe environment for children requires both strict enforcement of law and stronger social resistance against such crimes. They urged law enforcement to complete the investigation swiftly and ensure the maximum penalty for Jakir Munsi, so that no one dares to commit such heinous acts in the future.
