Sundarbans, Oct 3 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued four abducted fishermen and recovered arms and ammunition from the hideout of the notorious bandit group “Jahangir Bahini” in the Sundarbans.

Lieutenant Commander Syam-ul-Haque, Coast Guard media officer, said that based on secret intelligence, they learned that the gang had been holding several fishermen hostage near Arobawni canal along the Shibsa River. Acting on this information, a Coast Guard team launched an operation at around 5 a.m. on Friday.

During the raid, the Coast Guard fired two blank shots, calling on the bandits to surrender. In response, the criminals abandoned their boat and hostages before fleeing into the dense forest. The Coast Guard searched the boat and seized one single-barrel gun, two airguns, and three live cartridges.

The four fishermen, who had been held captive for ten days, told investigators that members of Jahangir Bahini had been torturing them in captivity in an attempt to extort ransom from their families.

The rescued fishermen, along with the seized weapons and ammunition, are now under legal processing as part of the follow-up investigation.

Lieutenant Commander Haque added that the Coast Guard remains committed to continuing such operations in the future to keep the Sundarbans free from bandit activities.
