Rajshahi, Feb 2 (V7N) — A murder case has been filed following the killing of a mother by her drug-addicted son in Rajshahi city. The incident occurred around 10:30 pm on Saturday in the Kharkhari area under Chandrima Police Station. Police have arrested the accused son.

The victim was identified as Sohagi Khatun, 55. Her son, Md. Suman, 38, had long been addicted to drugs and gambling, according to local residents. They said Suman demanded money from his mother on Saturday night to buy drugs. When she refused, he became enraged and attacked her with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured. She died at the scene.

After the incident, Suman allegedly attempted to arrange an autorickshaw to move the body, but locals became suspicious and informed the police. Police later detained him and sent the body to the morgue of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Officer-in-Charge of Chandrima Police Station, Monirul Islam, said that the victim’s brother, Nurul Islam, filed a murder case in connection with the incident. The sole accused, Suman, was sent to jail through the court on Sunday. Police said further investigation is underway.
