DHAKA, February 26, (V7N) — In a swift and high-profile operation, the Ramna Division Police have arrested four members of an organized kidnapping syndicate following a direct directive from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The arrests were made in connection with the abduction of Arfan Sayeed, the son of a senior official at the Ministry of Information.

The arrestees have been identified as:

Tanvir Ahmed alias Fahim (23)

Ishraq Yamin Likhon (20)

Hasan Al Banna alias Haslam (21)

Mostafiz Rahman Punj (22)

The Modus Operandi

According to Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ramna Division, Masud Alam, the group operated as a sophisticated gang targeting young individuals through social media platforms. The suspects allegedly used a combination of "honey-trapping" techniques—luring victims with the promise of meeting women or providing drugs—before holding them for ransom.

In the case of Arfan Sayeed, the suspects reportedly contacted the teenager online and lured him to the Chamelibagh area of Khilgaon. Once in their custody, they contacted the victim's father and demanded a significant ransom for his release.
Rescue Operation and PM’s Directive

The breakthrough in the case occurred when the victim’s father brought the matter to the attention of the Prime Minister. Upon receiving the information, PM Tarique Rahman personally instructed the Ramna Division DC to take immediate and decisive action.

Using advanced geolocation and information technology, police traced the kidnappers to an under-construction building in Chamelibagh. Sensing the approaching police units, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning the teenager. Arfan was successfully rescued by the police, provided with first aid at a nearby private hospital, and safely reunited with his family.
Ongoing Investigation

A formal case has been filed at the Ramna Police Station. While four key members are in custody, DC Masud Alam confirmed that police are currently hunting for at least one more suspect believed to be a central figure in the gang’s logistics.

"This was an organized effort to exploit the vulnerabilities of young people on social media," DC Masud stated. "We are conducting further operations to ensure the entire network is dismantled."

This incident follows a string of recent crimes in the capital, including the tragic stabbing of a schoolgirl in Hazaribagh, prompting calls for increased digital surveillance and community policing to protect the city's youth.
