DHAKA, March 23, (V7N) – The government has imposed a nationwide ban on illumination and decorative lighting on the nights of March 25 and 26, according to an official handout issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

On Genocide Day (March 25), no decorative lighting will be permitted under any circumstances on government, semi-government, autonomous, or private buildings and installations.

Additionally, in view of the ongoing energy shortage and as part of austerity measures, decorative lighting will also remain prohibited on March 26, marking the Great Independence and National Day.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed confirmed the directive after a preparatory meeting on March 8 at the Bangladesh Secretariat. He said the decision reflects both respect for national observances and the need to conserve energy.
